Daria Hoey, LCSW (they/them)

As a member of the queer community, I have a passion for working with LGBTQIA+ and gender-expansive folks, providing affirming care for an empowered, resilient life, as well as individual and group supervision for pre-licensed clinicians.

I want to collaborate to help you learn and develop long-lasting, effective skills for handling overwhelming emotion, coping with distress or trauma, communicating more assertively, and feeling strong and capable in your everyday life.

I am a certified Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) provider, a 12-session treatment for individuals affected by trauma and PTSD. I also practice Written Exposure therapy for PTSD, as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I believe in helping you find practical, action-based solutions that will help you get where you want to go.

I also provide neurodivergent-affirming adult diagnostic testing for ADHD.

After getting my start in the mental health field in 2008, I received my Master of Social Work from Loyola University in 2013. I also have a Bachelor of Fine Art (comics illustration!) from Savannah College of Art and Design. I love incorporating art and creative elements into therapy for those who are interested!

I understand life can be stressful, we all struggle at times and need someone to help us through.  In my work with clients and families, I firmly believe in building on the strengths and resilience you already possess to help you get through more difficult moments.  My attitude and approach to treatment is that while we all have our struggles, every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow as a person.

My primary area of interest is in working with the queer community, as well as those who take care of others -- family caregivers, healthcare workers, first responders, teachers, parents. I am an ally supporting members of the LGBTQIA+ communities, including transgender individuals and their family members. My hope for our work together is for you to accept and appreciate yourself for who you are, and who you want to be.

After many years working in nursing homes and hospice, I am uniquely capable of helping individuals and families navigate aging and end-of-life issues, and I am a Certified Dementia Practitioner for those of you caring for a loved one with memory problems, and I find joy in supporting caregivers who live and work in difficult environments with unique challenges.  I am also trained to offer adult ADHD diagnostic testing.

I may not be able to change what you go through, but I would be honored to walk beside you along the way.

I received a Master of Art in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University in 2015, a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from Eastern Illinois University in 2010, and a Bachelor of Art in Psychology from University of Kansas in 2004.

Handling life’s challenges can create a host of emotional challenges: anxiety, depression, self-doubt, to name just a few. It’s okay to need an extra helping hand to get us through those times. In my work with clients dealing with complex life challenges, I’ve found that the person, you, have the inner resilience to get through it all with some help. I’ve come to know that everyone has strengths and supports that can be brought out to face anything in their path. I consistently come to my sessions with three things: an open mind, an open heart, and an open ear.

My primary focus areas are working with the LGBTQ community, healthcare heroes, and writers/ artists. As someone who is all three, I can relate to your struggles more than most therapists. I am a proud pansexual, non-binary therapist who is here to work with your unique obstacles. I have a background working in substance abuse and long-term care medical settings which allows me a greater understanding of the human condition at various stages of change.

I’ve struggled with my own mental health challenges, allowing me an insider’s view on the obstacles that depression, anxiety, and self-image can have on a person’s sense of self. I’ve been able to overcome these challenges by talking to solid therapists who’ve reminded me of my own strengths and supports. I would like to be that therapist for you, as well.

My goal is for the clients I work with to leave each session feeling heard, appreciated, and supported. I want my clients to end our therapeutic alliance feeling strong and capable in handling life’s challenges. A healthy mind leads to a healthy life which offers my clients a greater chance at happiness.

I received a Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois in 2002.
